Piers Morgan: Gun Control Rants Had 'Diminishing Effectiveness'

Piers Morgan, in his war of words with former employer CNN, admitted his rants for more gun control became increasingly less effective.

Writing in The Hollywood Reporter, Morgan discusses the “prolonged, visceral on-air battle with the NRA” that he waged after the Sandy Hook tragedy and concedes that toward the end of his tenure, he was “shouting at the same people about the same thing with diminishing effectiveness.” Morgan is reportedly still in talks to develop a movie about the need for more gun control in America.

Morgan still thinks Americans who believe in the Second Amendment are “idiots.” Morgan also writes that he, along with other CNN staffers, worry that Fox News chief Roger Ailes may be right that CNN may be going “out of the news business” with the network’s plunge into more reality programming. 

He also urged the network to dump Anderson Cooper’s primetime show, ignore ratings, pursue someone like Fox News’ Megyn Kelly, and blasted the network’s obsessive coverage of local weather stories and snowstorms, saying he did not go to CNN to become a weather reporter. 

CNN told Politico that “it is sad that Piers is trying to find a new job by misrepresenting how he performed in his old one.” Morgan responded by saying he thought Anderson Cooper was “terrific on The Mole.”
