Sandra Fluke's UN: Contraception a 'Universal Human Right'
The UN is now echoing noted libertine-turned-martyr Sandra Fluke: the United Nations Population Fund’s (UNFPA) recent State of World Population report states that access to contraception is a “universal human right.”
Where do you start in attacking this tripe from the UN.?
Let’s start here. While the UN champions contraception around the globe, claiming that it supports “women’s rights”, they also ignore the massive human rights abuses in China, where family-planning officials have forced Chinese women to submit to abortions or sterilizations as a result of their one-child birth policy. In the past, the U.S. prohibited funding for UNFPA because of the Kemp-Kasten amendment, which cut off U.S. international aid from supporting coercive abortion procedures or involuntary sterilization. Then, in 2009, there was a shift; a Democratic Congress exempted UNFPA from Kemp-Kasten, and tens of millions of dollars started flowing to that organization again.
Could this be because UNFPA has ties to the infamous family planning department of China, whose government has close ties to the Obama Administration? Nahhh.
Another reason this dictum by UNFPA is terrible is that there will be calls for taxpayers to fund this universal “right” to contraception, which has been estimated to cost $8 billion a year.
A third reason to find the UNFPA’s position noxious is that it runs roughshod over religious freedom, as it mirrors Obamacare’s anti-conscience mandate, which attacks the beliefs of religious organizations that disagree with its requirement that almost all employers provide and pay for abortion-inducing drugs, contraception, and sterilization.
