Dennis Rodman Undertakes 'Basketball Diplomacy' with North Korea

Former Chicago Bulls forward Dennis Rodman is in North Korea as part of an HBO special about “basketball diplomacy” to try to convince North Korean leaders to give peace a chance.

Rodman’s agent explained

When I discussed with Dennis the opportunity to go to North Korea and meet with Kim Jong and the North Korean national basketball team as part of a documentary for HBO, he knew it was a once in lifetime opportunity to have a fun shoot around playing basketball and would give him the chance to speak directly to Kim Jong that the only way to go is with peace not war.

In response, the North Korea state media issued the following statements via a Feb. 27 editorial: “The U.S. imperialists and South Korean puppet forces are getting hell-bent on war exercises, crying out for the ‘punishment’ of the DPRK over its peaceful satellite launch and nuclear test.”

They added that the U.S. is a “rabid dog” which will meet “death by merciless strikes… if they dare pounce upon the DPRK.”
