Chargers Release Spikes
Linebacker Takeo Spikes and the San Diego Chargers have amicably parted ways as new general manager Tom Telesco made the decision to release the former Pro Bowler on Thursday.
Spikes, a fifteen year veteran, has never played on a playoff team and will look to continue his career with a new team next season. In addition to his time with the Chargers, Spikes has also suited up for the Bengals, Bills, Eagles, and 49ers.
Saving $3 million from the release, Telesco still had high praise for Spikes who he called “a true professional and class act.” Spikes also took to Twitter to thank the Chargers organization.
The 36-year-old Spikes is certainly not the athlete he was when he first entered the league, but he is a likely starter for a team in need of linebacker help as he attempts to enhance a career in which he has already accumulated 1,737 tackles.
