Orioles' Young Stars Lead Baltimore to Sweep of Yankees

Chris Davis belted his 31st home run of the season for the Baltimore Orioles en route to a 4-2 Orioles victory and sweep of the New York Yankees on Sunday. Manny Machado, the 20-year-old third baseman and phenom, went 3 for 4, hitting his 6th home run on the year and lacing his MLB leading 38th double. Jul 1, 2013 6:00 AM PT

UCLA Wins College World Series for First Time

UCLA has had a long tradition of NCAA success in team sports, with 108 national championships, but a title in baseball had always eluded the Bruins--until Tuesday night. The UCLA Bruins dominated Mississippi State 8-0 in Game 2 of the CWS final en route to their first baseball national championship and 109th national title in a team sport. Jun 25, 2013 9:20 PM PT

UCLA Takes Game 1 of CWS Final

UCLA RF Eric Filia delivered two RBIs in the top of 4th inning that ended up being the difference as the Bruins held off the Mississippi State Bulldogs 3-1 in a Game 1 victory in the College World Series Final on Monday in Omaha. Mississippi State managed one run in the bottom of the 4th, but that was it as the Bruins quieted the Bulldog lineup throughout the night. Jun 25, 2013 3:20 AM PT

Blue Jays Above .500 for First Time Since July 29 of Last Season

For the first time since July 29 of last season the Toronto Blue Jays are above .500, and they don’t seem as though they will be dropping below .500 again anytime soon. The Blue Jays came into today’s game against the Baltimore Orioles with a 36-36 record and riding a 9-game winning streak. Jun 22, 2013 11:13 PM PT

Yankees-Dodgers Doubleheader Explains Declining Interest in All-Star Game

To many fans, Major League Baseball has missed why the game captured their interest in the first place. The All-Star game was so popular because it was the only time during the season that fans were able to see the stars from the American League face the stars from the National League. Even in the playoffs, there was no single concentration of talent on each side of the field as was found in the All-Star game. Jun 20, 2013 12:30 AM PT

Breitbart Sports MVP Trey Burke Wills Michigan Into the Elite 8

With 23 seconds left and a five-point lead, it looked as though Kansas was poised to advance past Michigan to the Elite Eight. Then Michigan’s Trey Burke took over. Scoring the last five points of regulation and the first 5 points of overtime, Burke lived up to the title of Breitbart Sports Player of the Year, leading the Wolverines to an 87-85 victory. AL East: Red Sox in Full Rebuilding Mode

As March Madness overlaps with Opening Day at the ballpark this weekend, Breitbart Sports continues to roll through team previews. Today Cameron Scales takes a look at the team that has fallen the furthest the last two seasons, culminating with a 69-93 mark - the worst record since 1997. Mar 29, 2013 3:44 PM PT

AL East: Red Sox in Full Rebuilding Mode

A few budding young stars to look out for in the 2013 season are third baseman Will Middlebrooks, who had a breakout year as a rookie last season, and outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr., a two-time National Champion at the University of South Carolina. Middlebrooks will be looked upon to anchor the middle of the lineup and produce runs. Jackie Bradley Jr. will likely start the season in the minor leagues but, with the uncertainty surrounding whether the Red Sox will re-sign outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury and Bradley’s current spring training production (he is sporting a .444 batting average), I think we’ll see him in the Bigs sooner-rather-than later. AL East: Rays Poised to Take Control of Division

If there is any area where the Rays have a wealth of talent, it’s in their pitching. Tampa Bay was able to post the lowest team ERA in baseball last season, led by their ace the reigning AL Cy Young winner David Price. Price posted a 20-5 mark last year, confounding hitters and leading to a 2.54 ERA. Though he will not have Shields to back him up in the rotation this year, the rest of the staff are no slouches. POY Burke Crushes VCU Press; Michigan 1st Sweet 16 Team

LaSalle from the Atlantic 10 handed the Big Ten their only loss when they beat Wisconsin Friday, and Michigan returned the favor when coach John Beilein and Breitbart Sports Player of the Year Trey Burke (both pictured) made child's play of VCU and Shaka Smart's "havoc" defense, 78-53. The Big Ten is now 7-1 and the Atlantic 10 is 6-1 in the NCAA tournament, and Michigan is the first team to make the Sweet 16. Mar 23, 2013 12:04 PM PT

Kansas Survives and Advances

Western Kentucky turned in a valiant effort in their second round match-up with Kansas, but the 16-seed could not make history as Kansas outlasted the Hilltoppers 64-57. No 16-seed has ever beaten a 1-seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Jayhawks’ defense stifled Western Kentucky’s offense in the second half and Kansas Senior Jeff Withey willed them to victory. UNC Advances Past Villanova Through Hot Shooting

A Villanova team that lost at home to Columbia but then improved enough to beat three top five teams at home this season was blown out early but then rallied all the way back to catch UNC in the 40s before the Tar Heels superior talent eventually made the hill too high to climb. Hot shooting by the Heels early led to a 15-0 run and the Wildcats were worn out by the time they tightened the score, as UNC shot an impressive 11 for 21 from deep on the night en route to a 78-71 victory. 5-seed VCU Wins by 46 on a Day that two other 5-seeds Lost

On a day when two 5-seeds were upset, VCU set a record for the biggest win ever by a 5-seed by defeating Akron by 46 points. Some criticized Breitbart Sports for seeding VCU even higher early this season, but the Rams are looking like a team that could make another deep run. Mar 21, 2013 9:26 PM PT
