DENVER (AP) - Barack Obama has pledged to fix the broken politics of Washington after defeating Republican John McCain for the presidency.

In excerpts of his nomination acceptance address released by his campaign Thursday, the Illinois Democrat said McCain backed President Bush 90 percent of the time. "I don't know about you," he said, "but I'm not ready to take a 10 percent chance on change."

Obama said it's time to change leadership in Washington after two terms of the Bush administration. "On November 4th," he said, "we must stand up and say: 'Eight is Enough."
