Cyclist rides abandoned 1984 Olympic bobsled track in Bosnia

SARAJEVO, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Aug. 21 (UPI) — A cyclist traveled to Sarajevo, Bosnia, and strapped on a GoPro camera to mountain bike down the abandoned track from the 1984 Olympics.

Chris Thompson, who lives in San Piero A Grado, Italy, posted a video to YouTube showing his mountain bike run down the abandoned bobsled track, which allowed him to reach downhill speeds of nearly 40 mph.

Thompson’s path is mostly clear of obstacles — in a Reddit post, he wrote that he examined the track beforehand — but at one point he narrowly avoids a collision with a female hiker at a point where the track is 45 feet above the ground.

“The first couple of runs I used a ton of brake. By my 5th or 6th run I was only using brake if I was coming into a turn to fast,” Thompson wrote on Reddit. “I think with a little practice, the track could be ridden with no brake and speeds upwards of 80km/h [50 mph] could be reached.”
