A Lubbock, Texas delivery driver at a local carniceria thwarted a robbery of his vehicle when he shot a suspect he believed to be reaching for a weapon upon being discovered. The driver was licensed to carry a concealed firearm by the State of Texas.

Officers with the Lubbock Police Department responded to a report of a shooting at the Super Carniceria meat market on the 2100 block of Clovis Road around 9am Tuesday where they found a single person shot, yet not in life-threatening condition, according to the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal. A witness reportedly told police that the alleged robber was a former employee at the store. The former employee allegedly arrived in a dark vehicle and pulled behind a Bimbo Bakeries delivery truck to intercept the shipment intended for the market, according to an eyewitness.

The Lubbock paper reports that after the robber was noticed by the driver, he reached into his pocket to threaten the driver, “indicating he had a weapon.” Police confirmed that the delivery man responded by firing his pistol through the leg of the former employee.

Though current reports do not at this time specify the identity of the attempted robber or his official medical condition, first responders did transport him to the Texas Tech University Medical Center for treatment.
