TEL AVIV — Palestinian organizations are seeking to escalate protests against President Donald Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, Talal Abou Zarifeh, a politburo member of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, told Breitbart Jerusalem in an interview.

“The Palestinian organizations have decided to continue protesting against Trump’s decision and we continue to follow developments in the field,” said Zarifeh. “We are acting for the reversal of Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of the Zionist entity.”

According to Zarifeh, a member of the Marxist–Leninist group, the Palestinian organizations are constantly meeting “in order to follow the developments of the popular intifada that broke out again due to the terrible American decision. A consensus has been reached between the Palestinian factions, including Hamas and Fatah, regarding the need to escalate the popular intifada until the decision is rescinded.”

Zarifeh added that as far as the Palestinian organizations (which include terrorist groups) are concerned, the American decision continues to threaten the Palestinian cause “especially at a time we are witnessing voices inside the Arab countries called for a normalization of relations with Israel – voices calling to cooperate with a regional peace process on the basis of what the media is calling Trump’s deal of the century.”

He did not mention that the PA has rejected every statehood offer and repeatedly rebuffed Israeli attempts to jumpstart talks.

Zarifeh said the Palestinian factions believe “that these attempts to impose the great deal on the Palestinian people is meant to serve the interests of the Americans and the interests of Israel and the Middle Eastern countries, but not the interests of the Palestinian people.”

According to Zarifeh, through rare unified Palestinian protest, “The Palestinian factions are supporting the position of Palestinian President Abbas that this is the slap of the century, not the deal of the century. We will continue to support the president (Abbas) in any decision he makes with the goal of defending the Palestinian cause, even if it leads to a general intifada, even an armed one.”

Zarifeh added that the leaders of the Palestinian organizations, some of whom live abroad, should meet Abbas in one of the Arab capitals to confront what he baselessly claimed was an attempt to eliminate the Palestinian cause. “We need to adopt a clear strategy of action against regional and international developments,” he said.
