Police: Masturbating Man Causes Emergency Plane Landing

A Virgin America airplane en route to Los Angeles from Boston had to make an unscheduled landing on Monday morning after a Bay Area passenger was caught masturbating mid-flight, according to an Omaha Police Department report.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the early landing at Eppley Airfield was due to a “medical emergency,” but that contradicts official documents obtained by NBC Bay Area.

Those documents identify Doug Adams of Woodside, California, as the alleged masturbating traveler who caused the plane diversion.

Los Angeles film producer and witness Sam Slater said that he videotaped Omaha police officers arresting the unruly suspect, who he noticed was wearing a hospital bracelet.

“He, at that point, was fidgeting and began to remove the plastic covering the emergency exit door and tried to pull open the door,” said Slater. “Fortunately, there were a couple of Boston police officers on the flight that were there at that point as well.”

Another passenger said that Adams returned to his seat from the bathroom, started an argument with a female passenger, and then asked a flight attendant to move her.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office reported that the Northern California man was escorted to a hospital to be evaluated.
