One person was killed and three others injured after a gunman opened fire outside the Standard Hotel in downtown Los Angeles Sunday morning.

The shooting was reported shortly before 2:30 am in the 500 block of South Flower Street near the popular hotel, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Los Angeles Police Department officers arrived on scene to find three victims suffering from gunshot wounds in front of the hotel, reports NBC Los Angeles. Another shooting victim was discovered minutes later a short distance away at Olympic Boulevard and Hill Street. The shootings are believed to have been related. All of the victims were reportedly transported to a local hospital, where one of them later died.

Investigators on scene told NBC that a fight was believed to have started over access to a birthday party one of the upper floors of the hotel that then continued into the lobby and out into the parking lot.

Investigators were examining surveillance footage from hotel cameras in the hopes of identifying the shooter.

KTLA5 reported that broken glass, bloody clothing and shell casings could be seen near one of the hotel entrances Sunday morning.

The Standard Hotel will remain closed while the investigation continues.
