West Bank Anarchy: Two Palestinian Police Officers Killed, Two Injured in Firefight

The Times of Israel reports: Two Palestinian Authority police officers were killed and two other policemen were seriously injured Thursday evening during a firefight with Palestinian criminals in the West Bank city of Nablus, the city’s governor said.

The security forces came under fire while on a mission to arrest the suspects in Nablus’s old city, Akram al-Rajoub said, according to the official PA news agency Wafa.

Sporadic gunfire could still be heard in the city as security forces search for the gunmen, the report said.

Gun violence is rampant in the West Bank, PA police spokesman Loaie Izrekat said in June. Recently the house of Nablus Mayor Ghassan Shakeh came under fire. The late governor of Jenin Qadura Mussa died of a heart attack after assailants fired at his home in 2012. He had attempted to crack down on weapons dealing.
