Sam Claflin is ‘The Count of Monte Cristo’ in photos for PBS series

Oct. 22 (UPI) — Sam Claflin will portray The Count of Monte Cristo in an upcoming addition to the PBS Masterpiece series.

The story, inspired by the 1846 book penned by Alexandre Dumas, follows Edmond Dantes (Claflin) who is sentenced to prison for a crime he didn’t commit. He escapes, gets rich and returns under the name the Count of Monte Cristo, who is seeking to avenge his imprisonment.

“Experience the timeless tale of love, revenge and survival,” PBS said in a post on social media.

Jeremy Irons and Ana Girardot will also star, Deadline reports.

The series will arrive on Prime Video and the PBS app on March 1.
