Oregon Considers Universal Background Checks

When Oregon’s Democrat-controlled legislature convenes in February 2015, they are expected to consider passing a bill requiring universal background checks on firearm sales.

This would eliminate the private gun sales and put in a place a universal background check system that will require gun registration in order to be enforceable.

According to The Fresno Bee, an unnamed gun control group funded by former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg plans to pressure Oregon legislators to support such checks.

The state senate has attempted to pass universal checks in the past, but with a post-midterm count of 18 Democrats to 12 Republicans in the senate and 35 Democrats to 25 Republicans in house, gun control supporters believe they may finally have the numbers necessary to pass the measure.
