GOP 2016 candidate Ben Carson slammed President Barack Obama for spying on Israel and on U.S. legislators — and also pushed Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton into the middle of the expanding scandal.

“It is truly disgraceful that the Obama administration has spied on Prime Minister [Bibi] Netanyahu, his colleagues and pro-Israel lawmakers in Congress,” said Carson said in a Dec. 30 statement.

“Instead of focusing on deterring the Iran nuclear threat and fighting against the Mullahs who chant ‘Death to America,’ President Obama has treated Israel, our staunch, democratic ally in the Middle East, as his real enemy. Not only did he not curtail surveillance on our close friend, he has once again proven himself to be a president that our enemies need not fear and our friends cannot trust.”

Carson’s campaign has slipped to 10 percent support in the 2016 race. Much of his support comes from evangelicals who strongly support a U.S. alliance with beleaguered state of Israel.

Carson also made sure to push the Democrats’ frontrunner, Clinton, into the scandal, which was exposed by a Dec. 29 report in the Wall Street Journal. The journal article also explained how the foreign surveillance program captured conversations between the Israeli prime minister and various U.S. legislators and activists.

“No doubt President Obama’s former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton knew of the administration’s spying efforts on Israel,” said Carson’s statement.

“It is shameful that she participated in undermining the U.S.-Israeli relationship. Once again, she has shown that her experience in government is merely an indication that she is unfit to lead. When I am president, I will stand firmly with Israel, and one of my first acts in office will be to revoke Obama’s nuclear agreement with Iran.”

Obama’s agreement with Iran releases more than $100 billion in trapped funds to the Iranian theocracy, in exchange for a limited promise to curb development of a nuclear-tipped weaponry.
