Students at a once-placid small town Vermont high school are rebelling against the administrators’ decision to impose a transgender friendly, privacy-stealing policy on all students, just to satisfy a single green-haired girl who thinks she is a boy.
According to The New York Times, students at Green Mountain Union High School in Chester, Vermont, are protesting the school’s transgender policy which allows a single female student who claims to be a boy to use the boys’ bathrooms and locker rooms at the school.
Many students say it is not fair to put all of them in an uncomfortable position to satisfy the demands of a single student. Others say their reality-based religious ideals are being given short shrift for just one person. They’re also trying, in a very mature fashion, to reconcile the real needs and justified preferences of the majority with biological science and with their desire to provide some decent concessions to a radical minority. According to the New York Times,
“I just want to be clear: I accept everybody being proud,” said Daniel Baldwin, a 17-year-old junior. Sitting at a table in the school hallway, a copy of “The Catcher in the Rye” open in front of him, he wore a “Straight Pride” shirt pulled over a shirt dedicated to Slayer, a thrash-metal band. “Everybody has the right to be who they are.”
Mr. Baldwin said he thought people should use male or female bathrooms depending on what was written on their birth certificates. But he also said he would defend A J [the transgender girl] if someone tried to bully him for being transgender, or even for using the boys’ bathroom. “I would step up for A J,” he said. “We’re Americans. We’re supposed to be civil.”
Some locals are simultaneously trying to protect the evolved and decent rules in their civic society and also help the sexually conflicted youth.
“As we move forward as a community, there has to be compassion on both sides,” Ms. Brown said. “[The girl] needs to understand that this has been 15 years that students have known him one way. It’s obviously his choice, but maybe he should have respect for his classmates right now.”
Some students are supportive of the school’s single transgender student and the school’s decision to acquiesce to that student’s demands.
The school’s dilemma comes on the heels of President Barack Obama’s decree from Washington that Title IX education funding rules allows him to demand that 100,000 public schools enforce pro-transgender policies on 55 million students in bathrooms and locker rooms, just to aid just a few kids who say they are transgender.
Those federal one-size-fits-all policies are intended to boost the clout of the far-left claim that people’s sexual preferences — or their changeable “gender identity” — have more legal recognition than their actual biological sex, and so give males or females legal entry to into the opposite sexes’ bathrooms, locker rooms, sports and social events.
Obama’s new rules also require teachers and kids to hide kids’ life-changing teenage decisions from caring parents, to use government-approved language in schoolyards, to police each other’s use of pronouns, even in science class, and to gag themselves if they disagree with the new orthodoxy.
In its story on the Vermont school, the Times charged that the students standing against the new transgender rule were “carrying out a proxy culture war for their parents.” But the newspaper offered no evidence that protesting kids were tools of their parents, even as it respectfully treated the small clique of government-backed, pro-transgender youths who are upending the local school’s civic life and many other students’ sexual privacy.
Last September, 150 kids in Missouri organized their own protest against their school principal’s decision to impose the “gender identity” ideology on them, after one student — Lila Perry — insisted that he felt like a member of the opposite sex

Medical professionals caution against the claim that “transgenderism” exists among children. Recently the American College of Pediatricians ruled that it was essentially a form of child abuse to force immature children into transgenderism, partly because it forces the child into a life-changing avenue before they are an adult.
Another Times story published the same day further illustrates the difficulty of imposing transgender policies on the 55 million kids and youths in the nation’s K-12 schools. According to the report, transgender advocates claim that as much as 1.5 percent of the nation’s students claim to be transgender.
But the article did not address the possibility that the supposedly transgender students would mature out of their transgender claim, after first wrecking their schools’ sexual privacy rules.
Other surveys say less than .03 percent of Americans are transgender.
Polls shows that Obama’s far-reaching “gender identity” policy is broadly unpopular, including among many people who want to help transgender people.
