CLEVELAND, Ohio — Republican nominee Donald Trump’s son Eric Trump praised his father’s success not only in business, but also as a patriot, at the Republican National Convention.
“It’s time for a president with common sense,” Trump declared. “It’s time for a president who understands the art of the deal and appreciates the value of a dollar — our tax dollars.”
He referenced how his father told Oprah Winfrey many years ago he would run for president “only if it got so bad that I had no choice.” Trump said of his father, “That day has come.”
He took time to discuss his charity — the Eric Trump Foundation — which raises money for children facing life threatening illnesses at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Trump said his father taught him to run his charity with “honesty, integrity and values,” but then turned to contrast his charity to the controversial Clinton Foundation — without naming it — saying a charity should “not serve as content for personal enrichment.”
“Vote for the candidate who has never received a paycheck from our government,” he told the packed audience at the Quicken Loans Arena, adding to vote for a candidate that “can’t be bought, sold, purchased, bribed […] or steered from a path that is right and just and true.”
“Vote for the one candidate that does not need this job,” he said, as his father smiled. “Never have I been more proud to be a Trump…Never have I been more proud to be my father’s son.”
