Gubernatorial Candidate Seeking Ban on ‘High Magazine Cartridges’ Also Wants Gun Confiscation Orders

The New Mexico gubernatorial candidate seeking a ban on “high magazine cartridges” is now campaigning on firearm confiscation orders and universal background checks.

Michelle Lujan Grisham (D) is making clear that gun control will be an important part of her agenda if the people of New Mexico elect her.

The Albuquerque Journal reports that Lujan Grisham wants to “expand background checks to all gun purchases” and wants to put a process in place “to allow family members or law enforcement to seek temporary court orders to confiscate firearms from someone they fear may hurt themselves or others.”

Guns.com reports that Grisham also wants a ban on commonly owned semiautomatic firearms and want to create penalties “for gun owners who do not report lost or stolen firearms.”

On May 29, 2018, Breitbart News reported that Lujan Grisham told the Santa Fe County Federation of Democratic Women Gubernatorial Forum that she wants to ban “high magazine cartridges.”

The Rio Grande Firearm Rights published a video of her statement (see top), where she said, “Ban ‘assault weapons,’ ban high magazine cartridges, make sure that you’re closing every single purchase loophole.”

Lujan Grisham is endorsed by gun control proponent Gabby Giffords and by Michael Bloomberg-funded Moms Demand Action.
