Human smugglers in Mexico raised their rates to cross migrants across the border into the United States as the task of even reaching the southwest border becomes more difficult. Among the number of reasons for that and the causes cited for the rise in smuggling fees is the outcome of the recent presidential election.
Rio Grande Valley Sector Border Patrol agents apprehended more than 226 migrants at a single border crossing location in a 24-hour period. The apprehensions are part of a record number of migrant crossings along the southwest border with Mexico.
The actions of a McAllen Station Border Patrol agent led to the rescue of a drowning juvenile migrant near the Texas-Mexico boundary. Officials said both the agent and the juvenile required medical attention after the rescue. Other Rio Grande Valley Sector agents also rescued migrants in distress over the same weekend.
