On April 4, The Economist mocked the NRA and Second Amendment supporters with a column that turned out to be an epic fail because it was built on numbers from a debunked Everytown for Gun Safety study, an erroneous claim that “armor piercing” M855 ammo endangers police, and a not-so-veiled attempt to undercut the push to arm women for self-defense on college campuses.

Texas Senate Republicans Cheer Passage of Campus Carry Bill

AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Senate has officially passed SB 11, the “campus carry” legislation that would expand the state’s concealed handgun license (CHL) rights to allow CHL holders to also carry their guns into certain buildings on Texas’ public colleges and universities. The bill passed its third and final reading on Thursday in the Senate, a move that was cheered by Senate Republicans, who are hopeful that their colleagues in the House will pass the bill as well.

Texas Senate Takes Step Towards Approving Concealed Campus Carry

AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas Senate, along a party-line vote, gave preliminary approval to the “Campus Carry Bill” which would allow people with a concealed handgun license (CHL) to carry a concealed handgun on public campuses of colleges and universities. The bill withstood a five hour floor debate and then more than two-dozen amendments. The preliminary vote came with a 20-11 vote.

Texas House Committee Moves Open Carry and Concealed Carry Bills Closer to Passage

Legislation to allow open carry by people licensed to carry concealed handguns and the authorization to carry concealed handguns on college campuses moved closer to passage after testimony was heard in a Texas House committee. Homeland Security and Public Safety Chairman Larry Phillips (R-Sherman) held two sessions for public testimony on Tuesday.

On February 24, Breitbart News reported that Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America founder Shannon Watts wrote an op-ed against arming women for self-defense on college campuses. She actually suggested that opening the door for women to carry guns for self-defense could lead to more sexual assaults.

Texas Open Carry & Campus Carry Bills Pass Committee

After a long day of debate and passionate public testimony from both sides, the Texas Senate State Affairs Committee has voted to recommend that the Texas Senate pass both SB 11, the “campus carry” bill, and SB 17, the “open carry” bill. Both bills now head to the full Texas Senate for consideration. The vote came just before 6:00 pm Central Time on Thursday.
