McKINNEY, Texas — McKinney Police Corporal Eric Casebolt announced his resignation from the department Tuesday afternoon. Casebolt was the officer in the YouTube video by Brandon Brooks who wrestled a teenage girl to the ground after she refused to leave the scene and resisted his attempts to restrain her.

McKinney Assistant Police Chief W. R. Roland briefed Breitbart Texas reporter Merrill Hope and other media representatives about the upcoming police press conference. Roland confirmed the resignation announcement. He said the Mayor and Police Chief would be coming out in a few minutes to discuss the situation.

Roland said that only one person has filed a complaint with the department. He also confirmed that the charges filed against the one young man who was arrested Friday night have been dropped.

Casebolt’s attorney confirmed this resignation with FOX4 in Dallas. The police corporal is a Navy veteran who served from 1993 to 2003. For seven of those years, he served as an operations specialist and as a military police officer for three years. After the Navy, Casebolt served as a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper for two years before joining the McKinney Police Department in 2005.

Casebolt was the senior police officer of the initial response to a call for service from community residents who complained about unruly kids who were allegedly getting violent and fighting before the police were called.

CBSDFW reported that Casebolt left town after the video became public, expressing concern about his safety. The article speculates that his resignation will make it difficult for the department to discipline Casebolt as he will no longer be an employee.

In the now famous YouTube video, Casebolt is seen trying to gain control of the scene where nearly 70 teenagers had crashed a party at a private community pool.

A press conference is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at the McKinney Police Department. Breitbart Texas’ Merril Hope is at the police department to bring more information about the resignation.
