Forbes Mag Criticizes Sen. Graham's Desire To Hold Marathon Bomber As Enemy Combatant

Before Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was even captured on the night of April 19, Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) tweeted his desire that President Obama declare bombing suspect an “enemy combatant” upon apprehension.

Here is Graham’s tweet:

If captured, I hope the Administration will at least consider holding the Boston suspect as [an] enemy combatant for intelligence gathering purposes.

Since sending that tweet, Graham has taken heat from many corners, including Forbes magazine, which juxtaposed Graham’s claims to be a “strict constructionist” with his desire to suspend the constitutional rights of an American citizen in this particular case.

According to Forbes:

If the Administration were to follow Graham’s advice, Tsarnaev would forever be denied his Fifth Amendment right to remain silent and to have the counsel of an attorney….Were Graham to have his way, due process rights would never be afforded the bombing suspect who is an American citizen.
