ESPN’s Golic on LaVar Ball’s Sons Playing in Lithuania: ‘What in the Hell Has He Gotten These Kids Into?’

Tuesday, ESPN Radio “Golic & Wingo” co-host Mike Golic ripped LaVar Ball for withdrawing his two youngest sons out of school to play in Lithuania.

LiAngelo Ball left UCLA after being suspended for shoplifting while his team was in China and LaMelo Ball was a high school junior. Both will be suiting up for Vytautas Prienai–Birštonas in Lithuania to prepare for the NBA.

Golic noted how rare it is for Americans to play in Lithuania, questioning LaVar’s thinking to get the two out of their good situations.

“You had a kid playing at UCLA, who maybe after the winter break would have been allowed back on the team. You had another one who is a junior in high school, and they’re both taken from that and playing in Lithuania – where they rarely sign American players, the only one being former Vanderbilt guard Brad Tinsley. [He] played in this league for this team and he left that team after a month.  It’s almost at some point like… what in the hell has he gotten these kids into?” Golic asked.

He later added, “They were in situations — I know at UCLA [LiAngelo] wasn’t playing, but he was going to be let back on the team at some point. And the other one [LaMelo] was playing in high school. Seems like the dad just didn’t like the high-school coach, or whatever the deal was. It’s like he guided it and pulled them out of situations that they were already in. We’ll see if it works out.”
