Pot o' Gold: First Family Plans Dublin Trip to See Exhibit on President's Irish Ancestry

On Monday, President Obama will head to Ireland for the G8 summit. While Obama participates in those talks, Michelle Obama and the kids are slated to head to Dublin’s Trinity College to take a look at an exhibition on Obama’s Irish ancestry.

Researchers from Irish historical research company Eneclann spent four years tracing Obama’s ancestry on his mother’s side back to his seventh great-grandfather, Joseph Kearney (b. 1698). The Kearney family reportedly has links with Limerick and Galway as well as Ballygurteen. President Obama met his distant Irish relatives in 2011 when he visited the country. He also stated, “My name is Barack Obama, of the Moneygall Obamas, and I’ve come home to find the apostrophe we lost somewhere along the way.”

The Obamas will be headed to Berlin next week as well. No word on the status of Obama’s German ancestry.
