Ted Cruz Slams Obama for Collecting Checks from 'Democratic Fat Cats' Instead of Visiting Border
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) took to the floor of the Senate Wednesday to denounce President Obama’s failure to address the border crisis although he was traveling to Texas for fundraising events.
“President Obama today is down in the state of Texas, but sadly he's not visiting the border; he's not visiting the children who are suffering as a result of the failures of the Obama policies,” Cruz said. “Instead, he's doing fundraisers – he's visiting Democratic fat cats to collect checks, and apparently there's no time to look at the disaster, at the devastation that's being caused by his policies.”
Cruz pointed out that Obama was correct in describing the situation as a “humanitarian disaster” but reminded his Senate colleagues that it was a “disaster of the President’s own making,” citing estimates that up to 90,000 unaccompanied minors would enter the United States this year.
He said that White House claims of violence in South American countries as a reason for their mass exodus was “a complete red herring,” arguing that the sudden influx of children immigrants signaled a reaction to President Obama’s 2012 decision to stop deporting illegal immigrants.
“Amnesty is unfolding before our very eyes,” Cruz said. “And I would suggest the only response that will stop this humanitarian disaster is for President Obama to start enforcing the law, to stop promising amnesty, to stop refusing to enforce federal immigration law and finally to secure the borders.”
