Video: 7 Chicago Gang Members Charged in Vicious Machete Attack

Shocking video of members of a Chicago street gang, one armed with a machete, attacking two men was released to the public by the Chicago Transit Authority on Tuesday.

Chicago police report that seven gang members were arrested for the attack that left two brothers unaffiliated with a gang with slashes and bruises.

The attack occurred early Monday morning at the Kedzie station of Chicago’s Brown Line train line.

A 26-year-old man and his 17-year-old brother told police they were confronted by the seven thugs who were flashing gang sings at them. When the two told the mob that they weren’t in any gang, police say that 18-year-old Mario Elvira pulled out a long-bladed machete knife and struck the older victim in the head.

The 26-year-old victim received at least one serious injury that was six inches long and 1-1/2 inches deep. The gash took 30 stitches to close. Both were treated for cuts and bruises. The older victim remains hospitalized.

Along with Elvira police report that those arrested included Jean Salvatierra, 23; Kevin Ramierz, 19; Kevar Preston, 20; two 15-year-old males and one 15-year-old female. All claim to be members of a local street gang.

Four of the suspects appeared before Judge Bourgeois in bond court Tuesday. Both Elvira and Preston are being held on $450,000 bond. Salvatierra and Ramirez are being held on $250,000 bond. The others are minors and will be handled in juvenile court.
