Putin: Russia Gave FBI Virtually No Info on Tsarnaevs

On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the Russian security services offered US intelligence no information on the Tsarnaev brothers. They instead likely warned the Americans that the Tsarnaevs might join an anti-Russian terrorist group within Russia. The Federal Security Service (FSB) did not provide any follow-up information to the FBI when the FBI queried them for more intelligence. Putin did point out that the Tsarnaevs were American residents, not Russian residents, and that it would have been difficult for the FSB to gather information on them.

Putin said that he found it unpalatable that the American press refers to Chechnyan terrorists as “rebels” rather than as terrorists. “This is a common threat – terrorism,” he said. “And we need to cooperate more closely with each other. These two criminals, in the clearest way, have confirmed the validity of our thesis.”

The Putin regime continues to provide material aid and support to the Iranian nuclear program.
