At a rally on Tuesday night, as Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson watched the negative early results come in for his “strong mayor” initiative, Measure L, he tried to comfort his supporters with an unusual message. Local NBC News affiliate KRCA displayed a grinning Johnson saying, “So only about a third of the votes have been in, so you guys can breathe, everybody breathe, take tequila shots, Wait, wait, wait…scratch that. Rewind.”
Though Johnson’s comment set social media alight, the measure ultimately failed.
