Sessions: Gang Of Eight Sticking Together To Defeat Improvements To Their Bill (Video)

On the first day of voting on the comprehensive Senate immigration bill, Democrats defeated an amendment  by 12 votes to 6,  that would have frozen the conditional legalization process until the White House actually completed construction of a two-layer fence all along the border. Public support for building a fence is high, but the majority bloc argued that the Grassley amendment would not have increased security, but would have stopped the legalization. 9 May 2013

On Tuesday night, the eve of the House hearing on Benghazi, the liberal Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies honored UN Ambassador, Susan Rice with a "Great American" award. On Wednesday night, it was former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's turn to be feted, as she accepted an award from the Pacific Council in International Policy for her public service at a Beverly Hills gala. 9 May 2013

Susan Rice Honored With 'Great American' Award Night Before Benghazi Hearing

U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Susan Rice was honored Tuesday night with the 2013 Louis E. Martin Great American Award. The evening gala and awards ceremony, which included Vice President Joe Biden, came the day before State Department whistleblowers testified about the terrorist attack that took place at the U.S. consulate in Benghazi last year. Gregory Hicks, the highest ranking American diplomat in Libya after the murder of Ambassador Chris Stevens, testified that he was “embarrassed” by Rice's claims. 8 May 2013

Video: Congressman Trey Gowdy Less Than Enthused By Mark Sanford

Trey Gowdy was interviewed by a reporter for the Washington Post earlier today about the potential for a Mark  Sanford win in the special election for Tim Scott's seat in SC district 1, and the congressman was less than enthusiastic to say the least. As the Washington Post put it, "some Republican lawmakers dare not speak the name of the next potential member of their caucus. Fellow South Carolinian Rep. Trey Gowdy (R- S.C.) declined to mention Sanford by name in an interview focused on Benghazi." 7 May 2013
