Trump Reiterates Longtime Opposition to Gay Marriage

Donald Trump is repeating his opposition to same-sex marriage.

Trump has consistently opposed same-sex marriage and he voiced that again in his recent interview with NBC’s Church Todd. He described himself to Todd as “very conservative,” and even though he lives and does business in ubergay New York City, “a place with lots of gays…I’m not in favor of gay marriage.”

In an on-air interview two years ago Howard Stern pushed Trump on gay marriage. “Donald, go on the record. You’re for gay marriage.” Trump replied, “Well, I’m not.”

Two years before that, in an interview with the New York Times, Trump voiced his opposition to same-sex marriage and compared it to old guys changing putters. “It’s like in golf. A lot of people — I don’t want this to sound trivial — but a lot of people are switching to these really long putters, very unattractive.” He said he had lots of gay friends, but was a “traditionalist.”

Even though Trump travels in gay-friendly elite circles, even though he does business in the thoroughly boycottable hotel business, Trump has consistently voiced opposition to same-sex marriage. Even so, at The Pulse2016 marriage activist Maggie Gallagher continues to give Trump an “F” on marriage because he did not and has not spoken out against the Supreme Court’s Obergefell decision on same-sex marriage.
