Phyllis Schlafly: Paul Ryan Is the Republican of Yesterday

In a wide-ranging exclusive sitdown with Breitbart News, conservative icon Phyllis Schlafly slammed House Speaker Paul Ryan for continuing to champion the same donor class’s America-last policies advanced by John Boehner.

“We haven’t seen any change yet,” Schlafly said on Tuesday prior to the release of the Ryan-Pelosi spending package. “We did change the Speaker, but we haven’t seen any change in policies.”

Ryan’s 2,000 page omnibus spending bill, which he negotiated with Nancy Pelosi, will continue to fund President Obama’s unconstitutional 2012 executive amnesty, will reward lawless sanctuary cities with federal funding grants, will expand visa issuances to blue-collar foreign guest workers, will fully fund President Obama’s refugee resettlement operation, expand Obama’s low-income stimulus subsidies, and will make those subsidies available to illegal aliens.Although establishment media pundits have sought to portray Ryan as a ‘New Generational’ leader, Schalfly explained that his support for the longstanding policy agenda of the donor class makes clear that Ryan represents more of an echo of the past.

When asked specifically if his support for the donor-class’s agenda of globalist trade policies and mass immigration make him more of a “candidate of yesterday” than a candidate of tomorrow, Schlafly said, “Yes, it does,” explaining that Speaker Ryan has forced conservatives to refight issues that conservatives thought they had won by sending Republicans Congress.

Schlafly said, “Those are the issues we thought we beat when we elected a Republican Congress. It turned out we didn’t.” Schlafly explained that GOP leaders like Paul Ryan ignore the wishes of their voters because they are more concerned with “toting to their donors. And their donors are the people like the Chamber of Commerce and the big businesses. And they think their world is advanced, their financial interests are advanced, by bringing in low-wage people. And that’s not what we want to do, that’s just taking jobs from entry-level people in the United States.

Schlafly went on to say: “Indeed, Paul Ryan’s omnibus contains provisions that would quadruple the admission of H-2B guest worker visas. As immigration attorney, Ian Smith has explained, this will disproportionately hurt “society’s most vulnerable — including single women, the disabled, the elderly, minorities, teenagers, students, and first-generation immigrants” who typically fill these blue-collar jobs. When asked about Paul Ryan’s 2013 declaration that it is his job as a U.S. lawmaker to put himself in the shoes of foreign nationals and work to find legislative solutions to improve the lives of foreign citizens, Schlafly said, “Unfortunately, I don’t think Ryan’s view of his job is correct at all.”

“That doesn’t sound like a good prescription for victory to me,” Schlafly said, explaining that it is “the job of the leader of the Republicans in Congress is to help Republicans to win the next election. And to guide them along that path.”

Interestingly, as Breitbart News has previously explained, although Ryan’s omnibus does not advance the priorities of the American people, it does further the candidacy of certain 2016 Republican presidential contenders:

By locking in the President’s refugee, immigration, and spending priorities, Ryan’s bill is designed to keep these fights out of Congress by getting them off the table for good. Delivering Obama these wins–and pushing these issues beyond the purview of Congress–will suppress public attention to the issues and, in so doing, will boost the candidacy of the Republican establishment’s preferred presidential contenders, who favor President Obama’s immigration agenda.

Schlafly’s book, A Choice Not An Echois celebrating it’s 50th anniversary this year. In the book, Schlafly details how an “internationalist clique” of “Kingmakers” use their power to exert influence on their puppets in Washington to promote an “America-last” agenda that puts “the welfare of America secondary to the welfare of every other country from Albania to Zanzibar.”

Schlafly has been politically active for nearly one quarter of America’s history. She is accredited with stopping the ERA, making the Republican Party pro-life, and she has been a tireless crusader against open border immigration policies opposed by the vast majority of the GOP electorate

As Sen. Jeff Sessions said earlier this year in a statement submitted for the Congressional Record in honor of Schlafly’s 90th birthday: “For more than one-half century, Phyllis Schlafly has been a leading voice in defense of our Constitution, our values, and our way of life. Fearlessly, tirelessly, Phyllis has championed the American family and American values… Phyllis has inspired and mobilized generations of conservatives… Dynamic, smart, beautiful, and articulate, she played an important role in establishing a sound conservative philosophy.”
