Judge Blocks Release of Videos Exposing Planned Parenthood’s Baby Parts Sales

On July 31, Judge William Orrick blocked further release of videos exposing Planned Parenthood’s involvement in selling heads, livers, and other parts of unborn children after partial birth abortions are performed.

The ruling comes after the Center for Medical Progress began releasing undercover videos which showed Planned Parenthood abortionists describing how they harvest and sell body parts. For example, the first video, released July 14, showed Dr. Deborah Nucatola—Senior Director of Medical Services for Planned Parenthood (PP)—talking about Planned Parenthood selling the body parts of aborted children and “admitting she uses partial-birth abortions to supply intact body parts” to those that want them.

The Center for Medical Progress released other videos, most recently on July 30.

So the National Abortion Federation (NAF) sued in federal court in San Francisco. In the suit they “[alleged] the Center for Medical Progress infiltrated its meetings and recorded its members. The group says release of any audio or video would put members in danger.” NAF claims the Center “created a fake company to get into the federation’s annual meetings in 2014 and 2015 and then recorded its members with the goal of smearing abortion-rights supporters.”

According to the LA Times, NAF president and chief executive Vicki Saporta said, “The safety and security of our members is our top priority. That security has been compromised by the illegal activities of a group with ties to those who believe it is justifiable to murder abortion providers.”

Judge Orrick issused a “temporary restraining order” against the Center for Medical Progress. They are barred from releasing more videos focused on Planned Parenthood’s involvement in the commodification of baby body parts and are also barred from “releasing the dates of any of the National Abortion Federation’s future meetings and the names and addresses of its members.”
