Border Patrol agents near the U.S.-Mexico border apprehended 39-year-old “Sureno” gang member Alejandro Sanchez after he illegally entered the U.S., only to discover that he was a previously deported violent felon who had served prison time as a sex offender. The arrest occurred in the early morning hours of March 1st at a border patrol checkpoint in Southern California.

Agents assigned to the El Centro Sector’s Indio Station, a station responsible for patrolling the northern portion of Imperial County that covers more than 10,000 square miles and borders both Arizona and Mexico, made the arrest at the Highway 86 checkpoint, according to press release obtained by Breitbart Texas.

The arrest took place at around 1:30 a.m. after a yellow cab approached the checkpoint, located about fifty miles from the California/Mexico border, with Sanchez on board. Questioning revealed that Sanchez is a dangerous, previously deported member of the “Sureno” prison gang. He has convictions for both sexual battery and stalking charges, and is in the United States illegally. He is a citizen of Mexico.

Sanchez is also wanted by the State of California for an outstanding parole violation warrant. He is now in custody of the California Department of Parole.

Breitbart California reporter Michelle Moons previously reported on the El Centro Sector, revealing that in 2014 alone, U.S. Border Patrol agents apprehended twenty-eight gang members trying to illegally re-enter the United States. Among them were members of the “Sureno” prison gang.

Earlier that same year, another Breitbart California reporter Daniel Nussbaum revealed that nearly $1M in drugs was apprehended in the same sector in three separate incidents over a two-hour period. $209,600 of the million was discovered near the Indio Station when Border Patrol agents stopped a 21-year-old man and 48-year-old woman, both in the country illegally. During that stop, more than twenty pounds of cocaine was found in hidden compartments in the couple’s vehicle.
