GOODYEAR, Arizona – A Department of Corrections officer allegedly rang in the New Year by engaging in sexual intercourse with an inmate in the back of a state-prison van, according to court documents. Court records state that a prison inmate who drives the transportation vehicle, tipped off corrections investigators on Tuesday after she says she saw 26-year-old Anthony James Marotta receiving oral sex from another female inmate in the back of the van.
Bill Lamoreaux, a spokesman for the Department of Corrections, said investigators determined there was enough probable cause to arrest Marotta on the sex-crime allegations. In fact, Marotta admitted to Tuesday’s sexual acts during interviews with authorities. What’s more, the inmate admitted to having another sexual encounter with him in November.
Marotta promptly resigned. He was arrested on two counts of unlawful sexual conduct with an inmate and his bond is set at $15,000. His next hearing is scheduled for January 7.
