Gulf Cartel Continues Kidnapping Innocent People near Texas Border

Matamoros Gulf Cartel War

Breitbart Texas traveled to the Mexican States of Tamaulipas and Coahuila to recruit citizen journalists willing to risk their lives and expose the cartels silencing their communities.  The writers would face certain death at the hands of the various cartels that operate in those areas including the Gulf Cartel and Los Zetas if a pseudonym were not used. Breitbart Texas’ Cartel Chronicles are published in both English and in their original Spanish. This article was written by “JA Espinoza” form Matamoros.

MATAMOROS, Tamaulipas — Fear continues to hold a tight grip in this border city as the Gulf Cartel continues to kidnap innocent victims despite authorities unveiling a new anti-kidnapping police unit. Despite much fanfare, in one week the new unit has only made one arrest, which appears to have been just by chance.

As previously reported by Breitbart Texas, the border city of  Matamoros has been overrun with terror as the violent criminal organization known as the Gulf Cartel switches its tactics and begins to specifically target innocent civilians for kidnapping and extortion.

Breitbart Texas had documented multiple cases of middle class families who have had a relative kidnapped by cartel members.  Out of fear in multiple cases, relatives have refused to contact Mexican authorities in Tamaulipas, which have a reputation for widespread corruption. The lack of formal complaints by average citizens has allowed the Tamaulipas government to claim an alternate reality where government officials continually tout low crime statistics. The reality in this border city is very different than the reality that is portrayed by state officials and local news outlets.

The Tamaulipas Governor Egidio Torre Cantu unveiled his new anti-kidnapping unit last week stating that he was doing so in order to appease “rumors”. Suspiciously enough, just hours after Torre Cantu unveiled his unit they had already captured a suspected kidnapper identified as Mario Cabrera Marcelo.

The arrest took place on the southwestern side of the city along the Virgilio Garza Ruiz Avenue after a chance encounter and a high speed chase, information provided to Breitbart Texas by the Tamaulipas government revealed.

The agents with the new unit spotted three vehicles parked in a line which “appeared suspicious”. The drivers of the vehicles sped off as soon as they noticed the police force. The chase ended near the Puerto Rico neighborhood where some of the gunmen abandoned two of their vehicles. On the third vehicle which was a Toyota Rav-4, authorities found Cabrera Marcelo as well as a kidnapping victim. The victim had been handcuffed and tortured. He claimed to have been kidnapped days before by multiple gunmen who demanded a ransom for his release.
