Breitbart Texas traveled to the Mexican States of Tamaulipas and Coahuila to recruit citizen journalists willing to risk their lives and expose the cartels silencing their communities.  The writers would face certain death at the hands of the various cartels that operate in those areas including the Gulf Cartel and Los Zetas if a pseudonym were not used. Breitbart Texas’ Cartel Chronicles are published in both English and in their original Spanish. This article was written by Coahuila’s “JM Martinez”.

PIEDRAS NEGRAS, Coahuila — Authorities in this city were placed on high alert after a group of cartel gunmen presumably with Los Zetas tried to ambush a group of tactical police officers.

The group of police officers had been patrolling in an SUV down a dirt road on Thursday evening near the municipality of Guerrero when a group of gunmen tried to ambush them.

The police officers were part of the elite unit known as GATES (Spanish acronym similar to SWAT). As previously reported by Breitbart Texas, the GATES were created to take on Los Zetas and other cartels head on in an effort to bring some peace to this region.

During the ambush, the police officers inside the vehicle were forced to get out of the SUV and run into the brush in an effort to seek cover while they radioed for reinforcements. Squads of GATES, Mexican soldiers, State investigators, and local police officers rushed to the area in an effort to help their comrades.

Soon after the ambush, the city of Piedras Negras became the scene of multiple shootings. Cartel members threw road spikes throughout many of the streets in the city which caused numerous traffic jams.

One of the largest furniture stores called FAMSA received six separate gunshots which destroyed the businesses’ front windows. The shootouts set up a heightened state of alert throughout Piedras Negras as authorities sent out additional police forces throughout the night to patrol the streets.

On Friday shortly before 6 a.m. a group of GATES stormed into the house of local attorney Miguel Antonio Cortinas Soza and arrested him on street level drug dealing charges. Family members claim the police officers broke into the house and planted the drugs on him. Relatives also claimed that the police officers took the computers that controlled and recorded the video from the surveillance system at the house.
