TAMPICO, Tamaulipas — The top cop for the Tamaulipas State Police in this Mexican city has been fired after allegedly showing up to work and inspecting officers in a drunken state.

Breitbart Texas was able to obtain a leaked video that shows Tamaulipas State Police Delegate Luis Manuel Tecautl Gonzalez inspecting personnel in an apparent drunken state. The video shows the police commander, who is wearing a brown bullet-proof vest, swaying back and forth as he asks his troops how many loaded magazines they are carrying on their rifles.

The man can be heard in Spanish slurring that he came from the border city of Matamoros and that cartel violence there was rough. After several minutes of a slurred conversation and some expletives, Tecautl Gonzalez is seen stumbling as he walks off.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Tamaulipas government confirmed the dismissal of Tecautl Gonzalez from the police force. According to the government, the former chief was fired because his “actions went against the behavior expected out of a police leader.” Tecautl joined the state police force in 2015 after retiring from the Mexican military. Most recently he had been assigned to the port city of Tampico, which is on the border with the Mexican State of Veracruz.

As Breitbart Texas has reported in the past, Tampico has been besieged by cartel violence including widespread kidnappings, extortion, and gun battles. The city is currently a bastion for Mexico’s Gulf Cartel, while the neighboring state of Veracruz is a stronghold of the Los Zetas.

Editor’s Note: Breitbart Texas traveled to the Mexican States of Tamaulipas, Coahuila and Nuevo León to recruit citizen journalists willing to risk their lives and expose the cartels silencing their communities.  The writers would face certain death at the hands of the various cartels that operate in those areas including the Gulf Cartel and Los Zetas if a pseudonym were not used. Breitbart Texas’ Cartel Chronicles are published in both English and in their original Spanish. This article was written by Coahuila’s “M.A. Navarro” from Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas and Breitbart Texas’ Ildefonso Ortiz.
