Dem Senator: Obama Should Get Congressional Authorization on ISIS

Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL), a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee called on President Obama to seek Congressional authorization for an offensive against ISIS on Wednesday’s “Daily Rundown” on MSNBC.

“Eventually we will [get to vote on authorization for the use of force]. I believe that the president has the authority to strike. It’s the constitutional authority as Commander-in-Chief, and I believe he will exercise that authority, and I think he’s already set it in motion by what he’s done in northern Iraq as well as August 25th, the surveillance flights over Syria. So, I think he’ll go ahead and strike, but this is not a short-term deal. This is going to be a long-term deal, and that’s where you need, under the Constitution, the buy-in from Congress,” Nelson said, adding that “we as the leader of the free world are in this [the fight against ISIS] for a long time.”
