On the debut show of Bloomberg’s “With All Due Respect” on Monday, co-hosts Mark Halperin and John Heilemann reacted to comments from former high-ranking Clinton and Obama administration official Leon Panetta, who took a jab at President Barack Obama with the introduction of his new memoir in saying Obama “lost his way.”
“Leon Panetta is in the news today with the release of his new book tomorrow, ‘Worthy Fights: A Memoir of Leadership in War and Peace,’” Heilemann said. “Panetta is a longtime Democratic stalwart, a California congressman, White House chief of staff under Bill Clinton and most recently director of the CIA and Secretary of Defense for President Obama. His book made headlines for next up in which he criticized Obama for failing to use the leverage he had to secure a status of forces agreement in Iraq. Today he is quoted in an interview with USA Today broadening his critique former boss, saying in the past two years, ‘Obama has kind of lost his way.’ And when he was asked about it he of Hillary Clinton as commander-in-chief, he seemed to take another thinly veiled shot at the president.”
“[W]e’ll see tomorrow when he is on Fox, when he is on NBC and other places – we’ll see if he backs off. If he doesn’t back off, the White House better hope there’s other news to blot this out it is a damning critique” Halperin added.
