Ebola Expert: Without Dramatically Faster Response Millions of Ebola Cases Coming

Friday Voice of America interviewed the senior fellow for Global Health at the Council on Foreign Relations, Laurie Garrett. Garrett, an expert on Ebola warned the international response is “already behind” and without a “dramatic” change in the speed of our response in the next two weeks the sick could number in the millions.

Garrett said, “At this point, things are going so slowly on that front, that unless we see a dramatic change in the next 14 days we will be looking at 200,000 cases by the end of November, 4 million by Christmas and well over that by January.”

Garrett agreed with the CDC’s worst case scenario of a possible 1.4 million cases by January, adding, “The virus has the lead by a full lap.”
