NIZHNY NOVGOROD, Russia, March 7 (UPI)–Two members of the Russian punk rock group Pussy Riot have posted video showing them under attack in a McDonald’s in Nizhny Novgorod.
Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alyokhina, who were released from prison in December, said a group of men assaulted them as they ate breakfast in the restaurant Thursday, CNN reported. The online video shows the two women being assaulted by a group of men yellling obscenities and telling them to go back to America as well as squirting paint.
Tolokonnikova and Alyokhina were convicted of inciting religious hatred and hooliganism for a performance against the rule of President Vladimir Putin inside Moscow’s Orthodox cathedral in 2012. Since their release, they have briefly been detained by police in Sochi during the Olympics and attacked by Cossacks there.
The two women said on the video they were in Nizhny Novgorod, 250 miles east of Moscow, as part of their work to try to remedy mistreatment of prisoners.
