‘Common Woman’ Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop Site Faces Stiff Competition from Reese Witherspoon


Following in the footsteps of Goop founder Gwyneth Paltrow, Hollywood actress Reese Witherspoon has launched an online lifestyle and retail website, called Draper James.

Born in New Orleans, and raised in Nashville, Witherspoon says her new site was named after her grandparents and inspired by her love of the South.

“Draper James is all about the grace and charm I was raised with growing up in Nashville,Tennessee. In the south you can never be too kind, too gracious or two well-dressed,” the Sweet Home Alabama actress says in a new welcome video.

The new site features items such as cocktail napkins, costume jewelry, tote bags, and very girly and Southern style dresses to name a few.

According to Business Insider, most of the items listed on Witherspoon’s e-commerce site are modestly priced.

The same cannot be said of Gwyneth’s lifestyle site, which at one point featured a $12,000 vase, a $5,000 juicer, a $4,500 camouflage purse, and a Harry Winston diamond ring that was listed as “price available upon request.”

As for Witherspoon, her sportswear ranges from $50 to $400, jewelry is marked at $25 to $250, handbags and leather goods will go for anywhere in between $40-$325, and home decor sells from $14 to $400.

Witherspoon promises her new lifestyle brand will offer “a perfect dress so that you feel pretty always, stationary for every occasion… And all that you need to make your space feel like home sweet home.”

According to Racked, the actress told WWD that 40 percent of Draper James’s products are produced in the south, and that she plans to release five new collections annually.

“Draper James is inspired by my romance, my love of the south, combined with the modern woman that I am today, she said. “You only get one life. So let’s make it pretty. Please.”

The site went live on Tuesday and the company’s Instagram page has reached nearly 30,000 followers since its launch.

Witherspoon, thus far, has received more positive feedback from users then Paltrow has for Goop.
