Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT), the new chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, says he may reissue a subpoena to Obamacare architect Jonathan Gruber that was first issued in December by his predecessor, Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA).
Sources familiar with the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee’s investigation tell Breitbart News that Gruber had responded to Issa’s original inquiry prior to the end-of-the-year deadline, but were uncertain if the documents provided were considered responsive to the subpoena.
Chaffetz’s comments to the Washington Times on Tuesday suggest the documents provided by Gruber in response to the Issa subpoena were not satisfactory to the committee.
The Times reported that Chaffetz “wants to speak to Mr. Gruber’s attorneys and exhaust the professor’s options to voluntarily turn over documents related to his compensation and role as a so-called ‘architect’ of Obamacare.”
“We’ve got to address it. We can’t just let ‘er go,” Chaffetz told the Times.
News that Gruber’s responses to the House Oversight and Government Reform subpoena issued in December were likely considered “unsatisfactory” by the committee continues the pattern of Gruber stonewalling of federal and state investigations.
In January, Vermont State Auditor Doug Hoffer called Gruber’s failure to provide basic information he requested about Gruber’s research assistants, for whose work he billed the state of Vermont $80,000, “unsatisfactory.”
