Speaker of the House Paul Ryan said he’s used to “outside agitators,” in reference to former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s endorsement of his primary challenger in Wisconsin’s 1st District, Paul Nehlen.

“I’m used to that sort of thing,” Ryan responded when asked about the possibility of Palin campaigning in his district, during an interview on  Politico’s Off Message podcast. “Outside agitators are going to do what they’re going to do.”

“They know I’m sincere,” Ryan said of his constituents.

Palin endorsed Nehlen, Ryan’s primary challenger, earlier this month after Ryan refused to endorse presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump.

“I will do whatever I can for Paul Nehlen,” Palin previously stated.

“This man is a hard-working guy, so in touch with the people,” Palin explained. “Paul Ryan and his ilk, their problem is they have become so disconnected by the people whom they are elected to represent.”

Palin added, “They feel so threatened at this point that their power, their prestige, their purse will be adversely affected by the change that is coming with Trump and with someone like Paul Nehlen, that they’re not thinking straight right now.”
