A New York ex-con who reportedly wanted to make amends walked into a New York City police station Saturday to allegedly confess to the 2013 murder of a homeless man.
Eugene Villani, 41, strolled into the 50th Precinct Bronx station house around 1:15 p.m. to tell police he was the one who stabbed homeless man Efijenio Deletorre, 62, the Daily Mail reports.
Villani told cops that he allegedly stabbed Deletorre in the chest because the homeless man was attempting to rob him in the park where he resided.
The New York Daily News described Deletorre as a homeless man who lived in Van Cortlandt Park and collected golf balls.
Authorities charged Villani with murder and weapons possession.
Villani’s rap sheet includes convictions for attempted assault and attempted burglary, and he had been released from prison in 2016 after serving time for his most recent conviction.
Villani is being held without bail after making an appearance at his arraignment hearing in Bronx Criminal Court.
