Dr. Sebastian Gorka: Those Who Lived Under Communist Rule See Jihadis as ‘New Totalitarians’

Islamic State jihadis

Breitbart National Security senior editor Dr. Sebastian Gorka, author of Defeating Jihad: The Winnable War, joined Sirius XM host Stephen K. Bannon on the Memorial Day edition of Breitbart News Daily to discuss how Americans outside the military view our long war against jihad.

Gorka, whose family came to America from Hungary, explained that immigrants who have directly experienced the horrors of totalitarian rule might be better-positioned than native-born Americans, who have difficulty grasping the notion of an existential crisis for their seemingly invincible nation:

I’m not wanting to cast aspersions on my fellow Americans, but it doesn’t matter where you come from–whether you’re a Hispanic, whether you’re a Hungarian, Brit–the fact is, those who choose nationhood, those who choose to become Americans, must have a different understanding than most of those who are simply American by an accident of birth. It’s the perspective of the immigrant that puts oneself in a special position. … If your parents, or if you yourself, experienced totalitarianism, understood truly how fragile liberty and individual freedom are, then you look at events like September the 11th, Fort Hood, Chattanooga, San Bernardino, the ISIS videos, you just look at them differently, and you see in them the rise of the new totalitarians.

And you understand that this truly is–whether you like Huntington or not, I really couldn’t care less, but the fact is, one side of this war subscribes to Samuel Huntington, and it is a civilizational conflict for ISIS, for al-Qaeda, for the young man from Albania that was arrested, you know, just this week in the Bronx for being a recruiter of ISIS.

These things for them are a them-or-us war, and there’s only one way it can end, Steve: either we win, or the other option is, they win. There’s no halfway. It’s like there’s no halfway meeting of Hitler, or the Kremlin, or the jihadis. Either we will be subsumed and destroyed, or we destroy them. Those are the two scenarios.

The ideas of Samuel Huntington referenced by Dr. Gorka are laid out in Huntington’s pivotal book, The Clash of Civilizations and the Remaking of World Order.

Breitbart News Daily airs on SiriusXM Patriot 125 weekdays from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Eastern.
