Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen Rejected Offer to Go to North Korea

The CEO and co-founder of the organization that arranged for Dennis Rodman to travel to North Korea to meet with dictator Kim Jong-un and train the country’s basketball team says that Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen rejected offers to travel to the country.

Vice News CEO Shane Smith said that he also interviewed Kim Jong-un but “we didn’t get it on camera.”

“We had a three-hour dinner with the guy, but we weren’t allowed to bring anything in. You couldn’t bring keys in, you couldn’t bring credit cards,” he said in an interview with the New York Times. “We were supposed to get the footage from the North Korean television agency, but they didn’t give it to us.”

NBA players like Kenny Anderson and Doug Christie joined Rodman in North Korea and were compensated for their travels, and after all of the publicity, Smith thinks he may have unleashed a monster in Rodman:

Rodman went for three days. We were there for 10 days to shoot. Have we unleashed a monster? Probably. The guy has a well-documented alcohol problem, and I hope he gets better. I mean, we knew that they loved the Bulls, but most of the Bulls didn’t want to go.
