Christians in the Egyptian village of Al Our are looking to build a new church in honor of the Coptic Christians beheaded by ISIS in Libya, a mass-murder outrage captured in a viral video circulated by the Islamic State. 13 of the 21 Christians slaughtered in the video hailed from Al Our; they had gone to Libya in search of employment. A church in their hometown would seem like a fine way to remember them.

Egypt Reveals $45 Billion Plan to Build New Desert Capital, Replacing Cairo

Over the weekend, Egypt unveiled plans to build a wholly new capital. The new city would lie somewhere to Cairo’s east, closer to the Red Sea. It would sprawl across some 150 square miles and potentially be home to as many as 7 million people. Projected to cost $45 billion, it was announced at a summit in the seaside resort of Sharm El-Sheikh aimed at boosting the country’s flagging economy.

The UK Telegraph reports that the first of many death sentences handed down after the fall of Mohammed Morsi’s Muslim Brotherhood government has been carried out–a hanging. It remains to be seen how many of the hundreds of other potential executions arising from controversial mass trials will be conducted.

Muslim Brotherhood Attempt to Discredit Egyptian President Al-Sisi Backfires

Last week, a Turkish-based satellite channel with ties to the Muslim Brotherhood released a recording of a phone conversation between Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and two high-ranking Egyptian officials. The phone recordings allegedly took place in early 2014, when Sisi was the nation’s defense minister, prior to becoming president.
