More Than 50 UT Professors Protest Campus Carry in Letter

More than 50 professors from the University of Texas at Austin have signed a letter protesting campus carry on the campus. Breitbart Texas reported on October 8th that an economics professor emeritus from the University of Texas in Austin resigned expressing in his resignation letter, a fear that law abiding students with concealed handguns might shoot him.

Texas Schools Receive Exact Online Threat Oregon School Did Before Shooting

A message threatening students on Austin, Texas, and nearby campuses was posted on a 4chan r9k message board on Monday afternoon. The threat, like the one for schools in the northwest before the mass murders, raises once again the concern of campus safety and campus carry and second amendment issues, but also free speech, hate speech, and the potential policing and government regulation of such speech.The message was almost identical to one left on a 4chan message board the day before the shootings at Umpqua Community College in Oregon. Law enforcement officials in Austin have ruled out the threat saying it is not credible.

CA Assembly Passes Bill To Repeal Campus Carry

On September 1, California Assembly members voted 42 to 23 to repeal an exemption that currently allows concealed carry permit holders to carry their guns on college and university campuses for self-defense.

Newsweek: Texas Campus Carry ‘Still a Win’ for Gun Control

On May 31, the Texas House passed campus carry legislation, which is now headed for Governor Greg Abbot’s (R) desk. The next day, Newsweek reported that the expansion of concealed carry in Texas was “still a win” for Michael Bloomberg-funded Everytown for Gun Safety.

Texas Legislature Passes Campus Carry Bill

The Texas Legislature has passed SB 11, the Campus Carry Bill, and sent the bill on to Governor Greg Abbott for signature. The Senate passed the Conference Committee report on Saturday by a vote of 20-11. The bill cleared the final hurdle with passage in the Texas House by a vote of 98-47.
