Obama Echoes Rubio: Don't Tax Olympians

Barack Obama has decided that he would endorse legislation put forth by Marco Rubio that would enable Olympic athletes to avoid paying taxes on their winnings in the Olympics.  Winners of gold medals receive $25,000 for a gold medal, silver medalists get $15,000, and bronze medal winners receive $10,000.

White House press secretary Jay Carney said,  “The president believes that we should support efforts … to ensure that we are doing everything we can to honor and support our Olympic athletes who have volunteered to represent our nation at the Olympic Games.”

Obama signing on to this is hypocritical in a way Rubio is not; at least Republicans fight higher taxes as a matter of faith, but Obama loves taxes as a means of redistributing wealth, so for him to pick and exempt one group simply because they’re high profile is, at the very least, obnoxious.

LeBron James can afford that extra pair of earrings now.
